One and Sixty

Every year for the past few years, just the day before my birthday, I have taken self portraits.

Days before, I'll get myself a haircut, make myself look presentable, and then pull out my camera gear. Sometimes, I'd stand in front of something basic, like one of my printed photographs, but when I finally bought myself a backdrop, I started using it for these shots.

One year, I set up a couple of flashes, but when all was said and done, I found it easier to just set up the backdrop in my family room and stand in it when there was plenty of natural light flooding in. Yesterday, we had no shortage of natural light.

This year, I decided that I wouldn't get my hair cut before the shot, that I wouldn't get dressed specifically for the shot. I would wear what I happened to wear for the day and my hair would be as it is on any particular day.

Slightly messy.

I don't think I've changed that much over the past year, when I turned the big 6-0. Even over the past few years, when I started shooting these self portraits, I don't seem to look different.

But here I am, warts and all, as I turn one more year older.

Happy Thursday!
