Where In Ottawa: The Anniversary Edition

The first location: Preston Square
It's hard for me to believe that one year ago this week, I launched Where In Ottawa in the Brownfoot Journal. It was just a whimsical contest that I threw up on my blog to see if readers were interested in playing a game for a chance to win a PDF copy of my novel, Songsaengnim: A Korea Diary, which itself had only been sent to my publisher a couple of weeks before that (little did I know at the time that I would be changing so much of that draft over the coming months, that I wouldn't see it in print for another 10 months).

Since then, my contest has grown to be one of the most popular posts in The Brown Knowser. The game has taken as little as four minutes and as long as a week to solve, showing me that not only do you actually read my blog but you also know Ottawa really well. And I always look forward to the next month, when I can try to stump you again. I'm always looking out for locations to use. And not only does Where in Ottawa capture Canada's capital, it extends to the greater Ottawa-Gatineau region. Thanks for playing!

So, without further ado, I give you the anniversary photo of Where In Ottawa:

Think you know where this photo was shot? Think you know Ottawa? Prove it!

I'll start leaving clues for you tomorrow. You will be able to see them at the top right-hand side of the blog, above my photo. As usual, I'll also be posting them on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook. For Twitter, you can follow the hashtag #WhereOttawa for all the updates on this contest.

The first person to leave an answer in the Comments area for this post that correctly identifies the location in this photograph will receive an autographed paperback copy of Songsaengnim.

If you have already won a copy of my book—in any format—you are ineligible for the prize but you can still play and earn bragging rights as an expert on Ottawa. And remember: the answer must be entered in the Comments section for this post (the timestamp proves you were the first). No Twitter guesses, please.

Good luck!

  3. Hmmm. Family making compelling case for Ottawa New Edinburgh Club.

Called "first boathouse", one of four local clubs, it's a meeting place, definitely river view, across from Pointe Gatineau...

    1. Very analytical. Good deduction. However, it's not the right spot.

Keep up the good effort, Mary!
