Frosted

As I turned out the lights in my bedroom, I gazed at the street outside the window and saw a fog settling over the neighbourhood.

It would be a great time of night to capture some eery photos but I was already in my pajamas, ready to crawl into bed for the night. With any luck, there'd be fog in the morning: with any more luck, there'd be frost on the trees.

There was both.

I had an early doctor's appointment so before I headed out, I picked up a D-SLR to throw in the car. If I saw anything on the way to my appointment, I'd try to capture it.

There was frost everywhere. It was a hoar frost, the kind that makes for excellent photos. But traffic in Barrhaven was bad and when I thought of a place where I could stop, I decided that I'd wait until after my appointment, when I'd have all the time in the world to capture the images.

As it turned out, my appointment was brief but my doctor wanted me to fill a prescription and come back about an hour and a half later. This gave me ample time to go somewhere to take photos before I'd pick up the prescription and return to the doctor.

I went to Lime Kiln Trail, only 10 minutes away from my doctor. As I left Barrhaven, I saw that the fog became even thicker.

Perfect.

It was frosty, for sure: damp and cold. I knew I wasn't going to go far on the trail—only deep enough in to find some good vantages for shots. And it didn't take long, anyway, for my trigger finger to start to freeze.

Back in the car, I called the pharmacy to check on the status of my prescription order. It would be ready within 15 minutes, which was pretty much how long it would take me to drive from the trailhead.

After my second visit of the morning to my doctor, I decided I'd take a detour on the way home to hit another spot to capture photos. The fog had pretty much lifted but the frost was still hanging around.

Happy Friday!
