A few years ago, I was downtown, capturing photos of the Sound of Light fireworks display for Apt613, an Ottawa blog to which I've contributed from time to time. I was set up at the Rideau Canal locks, near the Bytown Museum.
When the fireworks show ended and before I made my way home, I stopped at a few places around the Chateau Laurier to capture some light trails from moving cars. When I got home, I believe that I simply pulled the photos from my D-SLR onto my smartphone and, with Snapseed, edited and posted the photos on Instagram.
And then I promptly forgot about the photos, choosing to concentrate on the fireworks that I had promised to Apt613.
For my Favourite Photos of 2018, I included one of the photos from that night but I had never used them in any blog post. I just liked that photo and wanted to make sure I hadn't forgotten it.
But there's one photo that I really liked, one that never left the photo gallery of my smartphone. It didn't appear on Instagram because the 5:4 dimension of a portrait orientation cut too much from the photo. And so, for nearly three years (I shot the image on August 4, 2018), the photo has stayed hidden in my camera.
It wasn't until the other day, when I decided to update the home screen on my phone, and started looking through old photos, that I rediscovered this forgotten image.
It's now my background for my phone.
I really need to organize my photos better, before they are lost for good.
