To say that 2021 was my most active year is an understatement. As early as January 5, I had dusted off my spin bike and was using it on a regular basis—every day until April, when I was finally able to unhook my road bike from the ceiling in our garage, and cycle in the open air.
Final distance for 2021. |
On my kayak, I covered just under 160 kms.
This year, I may even break these figures, and once again I have The Conqueror Virtual Challenges to thank. Cheaper than a gym membership and more motivating, this app has also allowed me to see parts of the world—virtually—that this pandemic, my travel budget, and time cannot allow.
As of New Year's Day, I still had less than 463 kms to complete on my virtual Route 66 challenge, and I plan to finish that trek sometime within the next two weeks. The very next day (or perhaps the same day, if I have unused steps), I'll transport myself to Inverness, Scotland, where I'll complete an 805.5K circuit of the northernmost part of the Scottish Highlands. It's a place that I'd love to visit in real life, and as soon as I'm able, I'm going.
My 2021 challenges. |
As I had written in a previous post, I've also signed up for three additional challenges that will have me covering another 6,980.1 kms, for a total of 8,248.3 planned kilometres in 2022.
I'm feeling the pressure. I'm going to have to go on longer bike rides when the weather warms up and the snow melts. I'm also going to have to paddle further and go on more walks.
But that's okay. One of my goals in 2021 was to lose my beer gut, which I've accomplished. In 2022, I'd like to work on my core and lose the bits of body fat that linger. I liked how I felt toward the end of last year and I liked how I looked on the beach in Cuba. I'm determined to not look as I did in 2020.
So, I'm going to be on the move a lot, this year, so that I feel good about myself. Wish me luck.
