Paddling to Wakefield
I'm going to have to go back, though not until next year, at the earliest. It's too cold, now.
On Sunday, DW, our Paddlefolk, and I went for our final kayak outing of this season. We've had some amazing paddles over this year, from our circuit around Kettle Island, on the Ottawa River, where we ended up at the NCC River House, to Lake Superior, to the Bruce Peninsula, and the Gatineau River, where we paddled upstream from Farm Point to the town of Wakefield.
I have good memories of this town, from visiting it as a kid to working for the local newspaper. And now, I can say that I've made my way there by kayak.
Though it's been about six weeks since that paddle, the memory has been made fresh with the release of my YouTube video, last Friday. I hadn't seen the video since I had originally uploaded it to my channel, when I scheduled it for the October 23rd release, when I watched it to ensure that it had been uploaded properly.
I've seen it twice, since it's release, and I have to say it's one of my best works of this year. It has information about the Gatineau River, it shows the beauty of the Gatineau Hills, it shares some of Wakefield's history, including the steam train that used to commute from the city of Gatineau and the Wakefield hospital, which is now a senior's residence.
I also share my experiences of working at The Low Down to Hull and Back News.
It's an 11-minute video: take a break and give it a watch.
The reason that I feel I have to go back is because I really wanted to not only reach the Wakefield covered bridge but to pass under it and go just a bit further. But the current was strong, where I was, and as you can see, I was stopped dead in my tracks and had to eventually give up when I ran out of steam.
DW was able to make it all the way, so it is possible to go further. And now, I want to do that, but it'll have to wait.
Now that the weather is colder, we've decided that our kayak season is done. But we have more adventures planned for next season, so stay tuned.
If you like my videos and haven't subscribed to my YouTube channel, please consider doing so. Though I never expected that my channel would earn me living wages, I would like it to someday earn me a bit of dough. Your support would go a long way to helping me.
Happy Tuesday!
