The Last Paddle of Our Vacation

After DW and I took our kayaks around Tobermory, searching for shipwrecks at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, I honestly thought our paddling for our vacation was done. It was a nice cap to what had been a great adventure.

But when DW and I awoke from a horrible night of camping at Cyprus Lake, we didn't want our vacation to end on such a low note. We had a long drive ahead of us and neither of us wanted to be grumbling about how we had such a bad experience in the national park.

We wanted our trip to end on a high note.

Before leaving the Bruce Peninsula, we decided to put our kayaks into Georgian Bay one last time, and we were unanimous on the location: Lion's Head.

Several years ago, DW took the girls on a camping trip to the Bruce Peninsula and actually stayed at the Cyprus Lake campground. I wasn't interested in camping and I had a work assignment to complete before heading on vacation, so the three of them headed out a few days before I could join them.

We rented a cottage on the Huron Lake side of the Bruce Peninsula, opposite from Lion's Head, called Mac's Shacks. Our check-in time wasn't until 4 pm, so I had lots of time to get there. I stopped along the way at a couple of breweries around Gravenhurst and Midland, and when I reached the Bruce Peninsula, I was still an hour ahead of our rendezvous point.

So, I stopped to check out Lion's Head.

I looked out onto the bay and hiked a bit of the Bruce Trail, and thought it would be great to come back with DW and the kids. Unfortunately, we got busy with other plans and never made it to Lion's Head on that trip.

DW and I agreed that this would be the place to put our kayaks in the water, and we found a parking spot at the beach where there was easy access into the bay. It costs $3 an hour to park there, so I committed us to only three hours out on Georgian Bay.

It was such a lovely paddle, with the Niagara Escarpment following the shore down to clear water. You can check out the short video I made of it, here:

I've already written about this paddle and our journey home, so I won't repeat it here. If you liked the video, give it a Thumbs Up. I'm hoping to attract more subscribers to my YouTube channel and hope that you'll be one of them, if you're not already.

Happy Monday!
