Sunset Paddle

I'm beginning to wonder how many paddle days we have ahead of us.

It's been two weeks since DW and I got into our kayaks. The temperature has begun to dip and we've seen a bit of rain, plus the wind seems bent on blowing with enough gusto to send the autumn leaves raining down.

Oh yeah, and we've been busy. Last weekend, we were shopping and preparing for Thanksgiving. And this weekend, we were shopping for gear for our upcoming vacation (yeah, it's six months away but we like to be prepared well in advance, and I want to train by wearing some of the gear before the snow comes).

But it would be good to get our kayaks in the water again.

Because DW is only available on the weekends—she is still gainfully employed, after all—I don't start thinking about paddle spots until the week starts drawing to a close. But because we have a limited number of days before the weather turns too cold to kayak, I'm starting to think of solo paddles.

Maybe this week: the forecast for much of this week is sunny and the temperatures are doable.

Last Friday, I released a YouTube video of our sunset paddle around Petrie Island, which we took on a beautiful, late-summer evening. We paddled a full circuit around the island and spotted some birds, which we also photographed and captured on video.

Toward the end of the paddle, as we rounded the beach, we encountered an idiot that was recklessly racing his jet ski close to shore, which is illegal. He also got close to us and I yelled at him, to no avail.

I was recording video at the time and had to bleep myself during editing.

Nevertheless, it was still a lovely and otherwise peaceful paddle. If you like my kayaking videos, have a look (it's only eight minutes long).

I don't know if we'll have many paddle days left but I hope they'll be peaceful and jet ski free. And I'll watch my language.

Happy Monday!
