Bye-Bye D7200
I've done it.
I've listed my beloved Nikon D7200 camera, the one that gave me my all-time best photo.

I purchased it on the day that it was released, almost exactly 11 years ago, on March 19, 2015. For nearly the first week that I had it, I didn't take a single snapshot: instead, I read the manual practically from cover to cover, making sure I understood all of the functions.
You'd have thought I never had a digital camera before. Or even a Nikon D-SLR. But I wanted to feel comfortable before taking my first shot.
My D7200 has been all over the Ottawa-Gatineau region. It's been to New York (as is obvious from the photo, above), it's been to Arizona, and to California. It's been to Mexico, South Korea, Cuba, Costa Rica, and Portugal. It's been in various photo studios and in dense forests.
I've loved this camera. Even after I upgraded to a Nikon D750, I continued to use the D7200, often carrying both cameras with different lenses, so that I wouldn't have to stop and change lenses on a single body to capture the action.
As I stated in a previous post, my Nikkor 200–500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens became too heavy for me as we recently explored Costa Rica, and I knew I had to let it go. I wanted to find a system that would allow me to take wildlife photography without wielding heavy gear, and I'm close to making a selection.
I just need to come up with a way to pay for it.
I've already listed the lens on Kijiji. I've had one serious nibble and two scammers—one who almost got away with it but my spidey senses kicked in at the last minute, before I left the house to make the deal.
But by selling my D7200, I no longer have use for other lenses. With the body, I'm also selling
- AF-S DX Nikkor 18–105mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR zoom lens
- AF-S DX Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens
- AF-S Nikkor 70–300mm f/4.5–5.6G ED VR lens (with a solar filter included)
- AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G 1:1 macro lens
I've included the 200–500mm lens in this package but I'll also keep the individual ad running, just for better exposure (no pun intended).
DW and I visited a camera shop on Saturday and I tested three non-Nikon cameras, with powerful telephoto zooms. I narrowed my search to two camera systems and over the weekend, I started weighing heavily on one of those two. And the camera store that we visited has that system with an open-box model and a used zoom, which makes it a solid choice (assuming it's still around when I'm ready to buy).
But first, I need to say goodbye to my D7200 and my five lenses. The set that I'm offering is perfect for wildlife, travel, portrait, and macro photography. If you know anyone who is looking for some great camera gear at a reasonable price, reach out to me or point them to my Kijiji ad.
